About Grandma Ruby's Country Cookin'

Tucked away on University Parkway, there's a gem known as Grandma Ruby's Country Cookin' that deserves some attention. Located in the bustling town of Winston-Salem, NC, this quaint spot is like experiencing a bear hug from a Southern grandma. The rustic charm of this place is noticeable even before walking through the door, and once inside, it feels like stepping into a cozy country home.

The menu reads like a love letter to Southern cuisine. From fried chicken so crispy one could hear it crackle, to buttery biscuits that melt in the mouth, the options are both comforting and indulgent. Those who have a penchant for classics might gravitate towards the tantalizing chicken and dumplings, while the homemade meatloaf presents a comforting, hearty option. One shouldn't overlook the sides, either. It wouldn’t be Southern fare without creamy mashed potatoes or collard greens cooked to perfection.

Sweet tea, served in mason jars, flawlessly complements the savory dishes, reminding one of lazy summer days. And for those with a sweet tooth, the pecan pie or peach cobbler makes every bite worth it. Occasionally, the elusive banana pudding makes an appearance, a treat truly not to be missed.

As for the ambience, it's as inviting as the food. With a warm, homey interior adorned with country chic decorations, the atmosphere encourages visitors to sit back, relax, and indulge. Around the room, faded photos and mismatched wooden chairs add a cozy touch, making it feel more like dining at a family reunion than a typical restaurant.

Reviews of this charming eatery praise the warm, welcoming staff and the generous portions. Locals and travelers alike rave about the consistent quality and the unpretentious vibe. Remarks often highlight how it feels like a home away from home, run with love rather than the sterile efficiency of a chain restaurant.

Grandma Ruby's doesn't just serve food; it offers an experience. Situated at 6110 University Parkway, it's conveniently placed for those passing through Winston-Salem or residents seeking a nostalgic slice of Southern comfort. Whether craving a hearty breakfast or a comforting dinner, this place offers a delightful escape into the heart of country cooking.

The staff are very kind and loving people. The Philly Steak sandwich had very little meat, but it tasted great

Nice no frills spot with low priced food. Small interior so get their early to snag a seat. Food was good but the sweet tea was the star of my meal. I absolutely love a good sweet tea and theirs was perfection.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 — Tiffany Ingram
Great little diner with country-style home cooking for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Great, affordable breakfast served all day. My only complaint would be that it feels a little cramped inside when they are busy due to the size of the building.
